Technology is the Future!

Hello Parents, Family and Friends!

Welcome to the blog! I am writing to you on the behalf of each of your students! We all know what an important role technology currently plays in our society, and that role is only going to deepen and widen in future years. The Technology Committee here at our school has decided to hold a fundraiser to raise money in support of providing our children with classroom technology. As a school we believe it is important to start preparing our students for the future of technology now. With your support, we can provide our students with the tools for success.

I am aware of a few concerns some of you may have regarding the relevancy of having access to technology in the classroom. Technology and children are often associated through computer games, Nintendo DS, XBOX, Play Station, text messaging, television, and so on. However, there are also many educational benefits technology can offer children, especially in the classroom. Some of the benefits of integrating technology are:

• Technology teaches students through a variety of learning styles.
  
• Technology provides students with a quick and efficient research resource.
  
• Technology facilitates cooperative learning.
• Technology has the power to engage students.
• Technology allows students to work at their own pace.
  

My personal goal is to provide our classroom with a Smart Board as well as a class set of iPads. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Smart Boards are interactive white boards with touch screen capabilities. The Smart Board is interactive, colorful, great for demonstrations, supports constructivist teaching methods, and caters to all learning styles. It is also able to sync with the iPad! My ultimate goal is to teach each student how to use the iPad to submit answers to the Smart Board interactive white board during lessons! This will limit an overload of paperwork and will also allow me to provide students with direct feedback!

As you can see, I am very hopeful and excited about integrating technology into our classroom learning! Any volunteers for the fundraiser would be greatly appreciated! The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 beginning at 1pm. Please feel free to write any questions you may have on the blog.
